If you have been horse riding for some time the pace will start to pick up and eventually you will have your first fall off the horse. While this can seem daunting it is enevitable so it is always good to prepare yourself.
Florence and her first fall rosette
A few weeks ago Florence had her first fall. She would have aced getting back up only her horse stood on her leg and she ended up with this huge bruise for weeks. We did however get her back on her horse and just sit on it, which is so important so that she won't get that fear of getting back on.
So, here's how she fell off... we joined in an extras class of learning how to show jump. Unfortunately, this class had a number of riders at all different levels. Some where cantering and some where not. The girls are in the intermediate group and cantering is something they still need to learn. Anyway, the horse Florence was on decided to bolt off like some of his friends and threw her off on the corner. A few tears later she was fine and this is when we discovered she wasn't bothered about being thrown from the horse, it was the fact he hurt her leg!
We are a few weeks on since the incident and her regular teacher said that it hasn't stopped her and she's still making progress. Most of all we are thankful that she still loved horses.
So, my advice to those who haven't had their first fall, that when they do..always get back on!
